Season Finale Third-Round Leaderboard

-13 R McIlroy (Northern Ireland), R Neergaard-Petersen (Denmark); -12 A Ayora (Spain), L Canter (England), M Fitzpatrick (Eng), T Fleetwood (Eng), T Hatton (England), R Hojgaard (Denmark)

Selected others: -11 L Aberg (Swe), N Hojgaard (Denmark), J Rose (England); -10 S Lowry (Ireland), R MacIntyre (Sco); -8 J Parry (Eng); -4 M Penge (Eng)

Rory McIlroy secured three birdies over the closing stretch to move into a share of the lead of the tournament finale and close in on a seventh season-ending tour championship crown.

McIlroy shot a 68 in Dubai, in a performance including five birdies and a bogey to climb to 13-under-par, joining Danish golfer Neergaard-Petersen.

England's Laurie Canter (68), Fitzpatrick (66), Tommy Fleetwood (68) along with Tyrrell Hatton (67) are on 12-under-par, along with Spanish player Ayora (67) and Danish competitor Hojgaard (65).

"All in all, a bit of a battling day," said McIlroy. "The conditions were tricky enough but pleased to shoot my score."

McIlroy has a substantial lead at the top of the season-long rankings as he goes for his fourth straight Race to Dubai crown.

Hatton and compatriot Penge are the sole players capable of preventing McIlroy from claiming the annual championship.

Hatton needs to win this event and have his rival to finish outside the top eight to win it.

"I'm in a better position compared to him [Hatton]," stated the tournament leader. "My focus is on my game. If I play and perform that I know that I'm capable of, especially around this golf course, I'm confident that I'll succeed.

"It would be a fantastic manner to conclude the year."

Penge shot an improved 68 in round three after scores of 74 and 70, yet appears unlikely to challenge on four under.
