In a low-scoring contest this weekend, the Denver Broncos clinched a 13-11 victory over the winless New York Jets. Signal-caller Bo Nix threw an early scoring strike and kicker Wil Lutz provided the game-winning decisive three-pointer to secure the ugly win.
Even with registering nine sacks against Jets QB Justin Fields, the Broncos found themselves trailing 11-10 after conceding a safety in the second half. Interestingly, the Jets managed a mere 82 offensive yards throughout the entire game.
The Denver quarterback, who went 19 of 30 passes for 174 yards, led a decisive 12-play, 65-yard drive that culminated in Lutz's 27-yard kick with approximately five minutes remaining.
In spite of their dismal offensive display, the Jets maintained possession with a chance to score a possible winning score. But Fields was tackled on fourth down from the Denver 44 after coach Aaron Glenn chose to go for it rather than sending out kicker Nick Folk for a difficult kick.
Fields had difficulties throughout, completing just 9 of 17 passes for 45 yards. New York finished with minus-10 passing yards, the lowest in any game since 1998.
"The aerial attack was non-existent," Glenn commented after the game.
Rico Dowdle exceeded 200 total yards for the consecutive week and rookie Ryan Fitzgerald kicked a game-winning kick as the clock ran out to secure the Carolina Panthers a 30-27 victory over the Dallas Cowboys.
The Los Angeles Rams finished the first half with a defensive stop and then quarterback Matthew Stafford led them to two scores to start the second half in their comfortable victory over the Baltimore Ravens.
Daniel Jones threw two scoring throws and the running back ran the decisive score with 4:32 remaining, securing the Indianapolis Colts a close win over the Arizona Cardinals.
The quarterback passed for scoring throws to Jaxon Smith-Njigba and another target, and Seattle controlled both lines of scrimmage on their way to a comfortable win.
Aaron Rodgers passed for 235 yards and two scores, and the Pittsburgh Steelers experienced minimal difficulty in their decisive victory over the Cleveland Browns.
Justin Herbert evaded the defensive pressure and found with his receiver for a long catch-and-run in the closing seconds, setting up the kicker's fifth kick to give the Los Angeles Chargers a narrow victory.
The quarterback passed for 261 yards and three scores as the road New England Patriots beat the New Orleans Saints by six points.
