Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Police report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then found multiple other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state preliminary tests indicate the substance was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to its source; investigators are currently not informed of any injuries in relation with the incident," they added.
Local authorities said they were working "to resolve the case" and have asked to the residents for tips.
A senior political figure stated the attack made him without words and required to be addressed quickly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on social media, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
